Thank You Members

2010 was certainly a challenging year for the Adirondack Park Institute (API).  The uncertainties of the future concerning the Visitor Interpretive Centers (VICs) at the beginning of the year have given way to much promise and hope for the future.  The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry took ownership of the Newcomb VIC this past Summer, and has created the Adirondack Interpretive Center.  The Adirondack Park Agency recently turned over the VIC facility at Paul Smiths to Paul Smith’s College.  Congratulations to both of these fine institutions and their leadership for stepping up to the plate in difficult fiscal times to keep our beloved Interpretive Centers open!

Both Colleges have ambitious and far sighted plans for programming and activities at both Centers.  They are also looking to the API to continue the many popular environmental education and interpretive programs that generations have come to love at the facilities. We are busy working with the two colleges, planning programs and activities. Many thanks to you, our loyal members, who have seen a need to support the API in this transition as we prepare for a new future.  Your outpouring of generosity has been overwhelming.  With your generous support, the work of the API will continue to be very promising.
